Between Gov's Pritzker and Newsom, we're starting to see some badly needed strong, aggressive blowback to Trump's illiterate fascism.
Pritzker came out fighting, Newsom came out mocking. The combo is effective as hell, but we need so much more, and we need actions to match the messaging.

I wish people wouldn't use laptop for gaming or any heavy operations. They're just not built right for that stuff. This is what desktops are for... Laptops have pitiful cooling systems (they try, I get it, but there's only so much you can fit in that tiny space) and push a lot of power through much smaller power handling components that run very very hot...
Laptops should be small, portable, light, and easy to carry around for light operations moving around or away from home.
Assuming we're not talking about Bedrock here (well, you do mods, so I guess that's a given,) Minecraft is insanely inefficient for what it does, so it definitely qualifies as pushing things hard.

The for-sure cases I know of were when someone was overclocking. (An overclocked CPU will run hotter than spec.)
But, overclocking or no, CPUs that get too hot are supposed to slow down to compensate. It’s never been an issue for me so I don’t know whether the speed reduction is managed on-chip or by the OS. Hopefully someone else will clue me in.
Short answer: Maybe. Heavy CPU use -> heat -> damage.

Something small again today. My brother sent me this photo of a Microlino electric car which he saw in Prague recently. The Microlino, a design that has clearly been inspired by the 1950s Isetta bubble cars, is made in Italy but the company is Swiss. Vitae appears to be a small Czech company specialising in lighting technology, by the way (just looked it up).

Currently reading The Librarianist by Patrick deWitt. It’s a fun read. His most Wes Anderson one yet, I’d say. Just found the word “terrorific” on page 107 (softcover version) and I’d never seen it before so I looked it up on the OED site. It’s not a word, apparently, but I love it. I think he means it to imply terrifyingly terrific. A keeper of a word.

The world I would like to live in looks something like this; all the work that's really needed for us to live, to produce and distribute food, water, shelter, medicine and internet we would divide this as equitably as possible and try to make it so the knowledge of how to do all of it is abundant, that we have a surplus.
After this everyone is free to do whatever they want with their time.
No one should have to spend their lives doing things that aren't required for survival, for their own survival.
No one should need to sing, dance, like, subscribe, hustle or innovate to have a roof over their heads or bread on their table.
We should be all free to and in our own way, at our own pace, as we like though.

i have a contrary opinion purely on the basis of the protocol itself and how it's implemented by MSFT, not a defense of RD Web Access shenanigans.
RDP gives seamless access to local peripherals presented to the remote host; sets of the desktop display and scaling to match the client by default. it's a stateful compute experience.
it sucks for gaming, better options for games: sunshine/apollo, parsec. i would rather have an X11-like model but not enough people agree with me there 😂
