I finally got a timely #stroke rehabilitation appointment scheduled. Only took 6 months post-discharge.

Whatever #recovery I have had so far has been self-induced. And whatever #symptoms I currently have should have been supported by the medical profession but weren't. Things are slowly changing though.

I tweaked the fonts properly across the interwebs. Everything is awesome.

SERIFS

All I want is to use serif fonts. BUT NOOOOOO. It breaks this and other sites.

ANY SUGGESTIONS ON SERIF FONTS THAT DON'T SCREW UP "designer's choices?"

Pic very much related. One is "normal" the other is with a serif font style forced onto Friendica via "stylus". Because forcing it is the only way apparently.

Greek Mythology for Kids: Enthralling Greek Myths, Stories, and Legends of Gods, Goddesses, and Mythological Creatures by Billy Wellman, 2025

Why do we still tell the stories of ancient Greek myths today?

Why are there so many books, movies, and games based on these legendary tales?

The answer is simple—Greek myths are packed with adventure, magic, and lessons that are just as exciting now as they were thousands of years ago!

This looks great. I'm also a big fan of Heroes, Gods, and Monsters of the Greek Myths by Bernard Evslin. It does not stint on the tragic nature of many of the stories, does not moralize or talk down, and is a model of clear, engaging prose.

Made me chuckle. Could be a tautology.

I cannot describe how utterly.... rage inducingly disappointingly shite "A short stay in hell" by Steven Peck is.

Really? Existential dread? The horror of hell? Really?

Waste of my time that's what it was. I have never come away from a book feeling so utterly irritated.

"Insultingly provincial" is the best description I've seen.

Since having this #stroke my mood swings between "I feel abandoned why won't anyone fix me" to "this is how I am now, I had best get on with it".

In both cases it is a constant battle every day:

Planning, energy levels, #spoons and all that. Every little thing needs accounting for and explicitly prepping.

Thinking about what I can or should achieve, how far I can go, what timings are. All these little things that you'd take for granted. Add to that a language and cultural barrier that has hampered my recovery and left me constantly on edge and in fear of my life (in case I relapse and suddenly fall over dead) and I'm tired.

Or all come to me at the same time of different events each mini cycle that get me killed in the long run.
The bureaucracy and treatment methods are not that much different here.\
Best of luck.

It's commonly said that #autistic people get along really well with each other, as evidenced by the fact that if you're autistic, there's a good chance at least 80% of your friend group is too. While that's often true, what nobody in the #actuallyautistic community really likes to talk about is that when you meet another autistic person, you're either going to get along swimmingly (whether you share any interests or not) or you're going to hate each other, there's basically no in between, and you can tell almost immediately which it's going to be.

To quote a Tumblr post: "once you meet someone 1% more autistic than you, it's on sight." You read that and think "hey, 'more autistic' is an outdated and kind of offensive way of looking at autism, and there's no way it really works like that," and then you meet someone 1% worse at masking than you and immediately think to yourself If I Have To Be In This Person's Company For 1 More Second I Am Going To Explode

I don't think it's about masking, or an "amount" of autism, however you'd want to measure that.

There are traits that someone can have, that people associate with autism, but that aren't inherent to autism.
Autism and ADHD for example can be diagnosed seperately nowadays, but that doesn't mean that people clearly seperate between the traits.
If one person is hyper- and one is hyposensitive to smell for example(both autistic traits), who is "more autistic"?

For me personally I can say that I'm "below average", when it comes to narcissistic traits(which seems to be typical for autism), which usually makes me not get along with people who are more narcissistic, even if they are also autistic.
But narcissistic traits are often conflated with autistic traits to the point, where celebrities use suspected autism as an excuse for narcissistic behavior and get away with it.

that depends. From experience, I get along better with people with adhd than with autism.

There’s a lot of cultural messaging that says part time work isn’t good enough. And a lot of it really comes down to a narrow focus on productivity, as the only measure for personal worth.

That framework is destructive, inhumane, and inaccurate.

@plan-A I've got out working on the LAN. So that's something. Ready easy to set up. Shockingly so!! It's WAN access in struggling with because the cheap router we've been set up with has nobway of opening ports. Plus services like Tailscale run as vpn on Android and that means I have to switch off my usual vpn to use it. It's just a little too much friction than I need.

It's fun to much about with though.

I have been fighting with #bookwyrm as a solution to recording my #reading and #book data. It is a little #disappointing. I want to use it, but for me (mass importing of data) it is too time consuming going through hundreds of entries that are either "slightly" different from what currently exists on the service, or is not on any instance networked and therefore throw up import errors.

Thing is, you look at what you've got and think: "That's correct data there, I've checked against multiple sources and all the names, authors and ISBNs are correct. Why can't I just push a button and import it all? I mean it's better than what is being suggested to me at present. Why is that <random book> appearing six times on my list against book I know are okay?"

A morning wasted. I don't need a solution, I have an alternative that isn't #goodreads or bookwyrm. But you try and support or use something and it's... It's like me having to recompile a Linux v2.2 kernel to get USB support around 2000-2001.
